Guthrie Kuckes
Program Associate
Guthrie Kuckes is a Program Associate on the Democracy and Technology team specializing in digital resilience. Guthrie has long been interested in the use of technology for good, having learned to code at the age of thirteen and becoming interested in online privacy and network security shortly thereafter. As a democratic development practitioner, Guthrie is an avid student of localization and has focused much of his career on the countries of the Global South, with a special focus on the countries of the MENA and Latin America regions. Beyond this, Guthrie has a wide variety of interests within international development, including protest movements, social conflict, political theory, and political uses of data science. Guthrie previously served on NDI’s Global Political Parties team, working with social movements and established political parties globally to more effectively connect with citizens and aggregate citizen interests through improved policy-making, coalition building, and digital communications structures. Before his time at NDI, Guthrie supported election monitoring efforts and conducted quantitative research at the Carter Center and the OSCE. Guthrie holds a BA with Honors in International Relations from Boston University, and is proficient in Spanish, Modern Standard Arabic, and German. In his free time he enjoys running, biking, and reading.
